Modern projectors already contain substantial video processing. An external processor makes sense when the cinema benefits from moving more of the image workflow into a dedicated upstream platform.
Where it can add value
HDR tone mapping, scaling, aspect-ratio management, subtitle handling, non-linear stretch workflows and calibration-related processing can all become part of the external image chain depending on the system.
It does not replace projector fundamentals
An external processor cannot change the projector’s lens, native optical behaviour, light output or underlying imaging hardware. It works with those capabilities rather than replacing them.
Think about the whole chain
We are most interested in video processing when it makes the projector, screen and content strategy work together more elegantly. That is why Envy appears in our system paths beside JVC and Barco rather than in an isolated accessory category.
