A focused private-cinema consultation before committing to equipment, layout or construction decisions.
Professional guidance before you commit to the room
A project-specific review before layout, seating, acoustic or equipment decisions become expensive to change.
The Cinema Consultation is intended for clients who already have a room, concept, quotation, seating idea, acoustic concern or set of drawings and want an experienced second opinion before making important design or purchasing decisions. Room geometry, equipment, acoustics and construction risks are reviewed as connected parts of one private cinema, without implying that a remote consultation is a completed technical design package.
Arriving from Home Cinema Seating? Your preliminary room dimensions, proposed row layout and seating questions can be reviewed as part of this consultation. After purchase, we will send instructions for securely submitting your plans, photographs and configuration details.
Arriving from Home Cinema Acoustics? Your room dimensions, construction questions, loudspeaker or subwoofer concerns and acoustic-treatment proposals can be reviewed strategically as part of this consultation. HomeCinemaAcoustics.co.za remains an educational and enquiry resource; Home Cinema Store is the related commercial destination where this paid consultation can be purchased.
What happens after purchase
You complete checkout, then Home Cinema Store contacts you to request plans, photographs, quotations and notes. The supplied information is reviewed before the 90-minute remote consultation. A written summary is supplied after the consultation, and the included 30-minute follow-up is scheduled if required.
What to send before the consultation
Send whatever is available: room dimensions, architectural plans or sketches, proposed seating and screen positions, loudspeaker, subwoofer and equipment lists, photographs or video, existing quotations or acoustic-treatment proposals, construction details if work has started and the decisions you want reviewed.
Who it is for
This is for homeowners and project teams who need to test a proposed room, quotation, seating layout, acoustic strategy or equipment path against the requirements of a serious private cinema before committing. It is not a generic seating sales appointment or a complete acoustic design package.
Acoustic review within the consultation
- Room dimensions, seating positions and likely low-frequency risks
- Loudspeaker and subwoofer placement
- First reflections, decay control and treatment priorities
- Bass trapping and low-frequency management
- Absorption, diffusion and hybrid treatment
- Fabric-wall systems and concealed loudspeaker integration
- Potential sound-isolation, door and ventilation concerns
- Proposed acoustic products, drawings or contractor recommendations
- The appropriate role of DSP and room correction after the physical design has been addressed
This is a strategic consultation intended to identify priorities, risks and sensible next steps.
Seating-specific review scope
- Proposed seat model, seat count and row configuration
- Straight or curved row implications
- Overall row width, arm arrangement and side clearances
- Upright seat depth and fully deployed or reclined depth
- Clearance between rows in both upright and reclined use
- Aisle, walkway and circulation allowances
- Front-row and rear-row viewing positions
- Screen size, screen height and viewing-distance relationships
- Sightlines from rear seats over the row in front
- Preliminary riser-height and riser-depth implications
- The effect of seat position on surround and Atmos speaker geometry
- The effect of seating positions on bass consistency and subwoofer planning
- Power provision for motorised seating, USB or USB-C accessories and in-seat lighting
- Access for delivery, assembly, cabling, maintenance and future service
- Manufacturer installation clearances and project-specific constraints
What you receive
- Pre-review of the supplied information
- A focused 90-minute remote consultation
- A written summary of observations, priorities and recommended next steps
- One 30-minute follow-up discussion
- Guidance on whether the project needs concept design, technical design, acoustic modelling, site investigation or equipment specification
The written summary is intended to guide decisions. It is not an installation-ready drawing package.
What is not included
The R10,000 consultation does not include technical drawings, a complete cinema design, measured acoustic modelling, construction documentation, on-site testing, isolation engineering, detailed treatment schedules, product supply, installation, programming, commissioning, contractor coordination, certification, structural confirmation, accessibility confirmation, emergency-egress confirmation or final manufacturer approval.
Any further concept design, technical design, acoustic modelling, site investigation, product proposal, implementation, installation or commissioning must be scoped and quoted separately.
Consultation versus technical design
Cinema Consultation: strategic review and expert direction; pre-review, 90-minute remote meeting, written summary and follow-up; appropriate before equipment, layout or construction decisions are fixed; does not include drawings, modelling, on-site measurement or contractor coordination.
Technical Cinema Design: detailed, project-specific design work that may include coordinated layouts, drawings, system design and construction information; appropriate when architects, interior designers, builders and specialist trades need a defined package from which to work.

Important technical limitations
Guidance is project-specific and based on the information supplied. Preliminary seating, sightline, riser, acoustic and construction-risk guidance is not a substitute for final architectural, structural, electrical, accessibility, emergency-egress, manufacturer or acoustic-engineering approval. Product specifications, finishes, dimensions, performance, availability and lead times can change and require confirmation.
Motorised seating requires suitable electrical planning and manufacturer clearances. Do not assume products mentioned on external educational sites are stocked by Home Cinema Store unless they are specifically offered here. External websites are subject to their own privacy notices and terms.
Design-fee credit
Where Home Cinema Store subsequently supplies and installs the accepted cinema system, the consultation fee may be credited in accordance with the existing design-fee credit terms.
- Credit applies to the same property, room and project.
- Credit is applied once the equipment supply and installation proposal is formally accepted and its deposit paid.
- The credit cannot exceed the design fee actually paid.
- It is not exchangeable for cash or transferable to another project.
- Additional work caused by a material change in scope remains separately chargeable.
